Import and Export Terms
Last updated: Aug 13, 2025
For users managing large glossaries, OmniTranslate provides a powerful bulk import and export feature using the CSV (Comma-Separated Values) format. This allows you to edit your terms in a spreadsheet program like Excel or Google Sheets and then upload them back into your Global or Thread-specific Context.
For detailed information on the CSV format and supported tags, please refer to our Glossary Management guide.
Exporting Terms
Exporting your glossary is a great way to back up your terms or to edit them offline.
Steps
Navigate to the Context Page: Go to the "Context" page from the main navigation.
Select a Context: Use the dropdown menu to choose whether you want to export from your "Global" context or a specific thread.
Select Terms to Export:
- To export all terms, make sure no terms are selected.
- To export specific terms, use the checkboxes to select the terms you want.
Click Export: Click the "Export" button in the toolbar. If you have terms selected, it will export only those; otherwise, it will export all terms in the current context.
WARNING
If you export fewer than 100 terms, the data will be copied to your clipboard. For 100 or more terms, a .csv file will be downloaded to your computer.
Importing Terms
You can bulk add new terms or update existing ones by importing a CSV file or pasting CSV-formatted text.
Steps
Navigate to the Context Page and select the desired context (Global or a specific thread).
Open the Add Term Dialog: Click the "Add" button.
Switch to the Bulk Tab: In the dialog that appears, click on the "Bulk" tab.
Provide Your Data: You have two options:
- Paste Text: Copy the CSV-formatted text from your spreadsheet or text editor and paste it directly into the text area.
- Upload CSV File: Click the "Upload CSV" button and select the
.csvfile from your computer.
Add Terms: Click the "Add Terms" button to import. OmniTranslate will process the data, adding new terms and updating any existing ones where the
rawvalue matches.
