Customizing Terms

Last updated: Aug 12, 2025

In this guide, we will be continuing from the previous guide on translating a chapter. We will learn about Threads and how to customize terms within a thread. For a more in-depth explanation of the glossary system, please see our Advanced Glossary Management guide.

Threads are used to link translations together, ensuring consistent translation of terms across chapters. OmniTranslate automatically detects and translates terms, ensuring a more consistent translation. However, you can customize these terms to better suit your preferences or maintain consistency with previous translations.

In this guide, we will customize the term 'Ye Anping' to 'Ye Anbing' in the novel "The Cannon Fodder Turns His Sister into a Soaring Phoenix." We will be continuing from where we left off in the 'Your First Translation' guide.

Prerequisites

  • Make sure you have completed the translation of Chapter 1 of the novel "The Cannon Fodder Turns His Sister into a Soaring Phoenix." If you haven't, refer to the 'Your First Translation' guide.

Updating Terms Through the Context Page

1. Access the Thread Page

Visit the Library page and select the thread for the novel.

Navigating to the thread page

2. Select the Context

Click on the Context Button.

Selecting term tab

Locate or search for the term 'Ye Anping' in the list. Click the three vertical dots next to it. As shown in the image below, you can 'Edit' the term to customize it.

WARNING

Currently, OmniTranslate treats the terms more as a suggestion rather than a strict rule. The model may still choose to use other variations of the term based on the context, especially when the given translation is too different from the original term.

4. Translate

IMPORTANT

Term changes will only be applied to new translations. To see the changes on previously translated chapters, you will need to re-translate them.

Proceed to create a new translation in the same thread. You can either translate the next chapter or re-translate Chapter 1 to see the changes.

Translate

The translation should now reflect 'Ye Anbing' instead of 'Ye Anping'.

Updating Terms Through Highlighting

You can also update terms directly while reading a translation by using the highlighting feature.

1. Enable Term Highlighting

First, you need to enable term highlighting from the settings menu. In the reader view, open Settings -> UI and click the highlighter icon under the translation model.

Enable term highlighting

2. Select and Edit Term

Once highlighting is enabled, click a bolded term in the translation to open the edit term dialog.

Select highlighted term to edit

3. Edit and Save

In the "Edit Term" dialog, you can change the translation of the selected term. After making your changes, click "Edit" to save.

Edit the highlighted term

The change will be applied after regeneration or in future translations in the same thread.

TIP

If you want to keep term highlighting when navigating between chapters, make sure to turn on the Preserve Highlight on Navigation setting.
