Credits & Usage
Last updated: November 19, 2025
OmniTranslate meters every translation with a single credit system. The app automatically pulls from your daily and weekly quotas first and then falls back to your credit balance—so you can just keep reading. Use this guide to understand how limits refill, when credits are required, and how to check your detailed usage.
Overview
Each account includes two resources:
- Translation quotas – Daily and weekly buckets that refill continuously and are bundled with your tier.
- Credit balance – Monthly credit grants (Pro) or purchased credits that unlock premium models or keep you going when quota is empty.
During a request the system tries quota first. If the model can't use quota or either quota bucket is empty, the system automatically uses your available credits instead.
Translation Quotas
How quota refills
- Daily and weekly buckets refill continuously instead of in a single midnight reset.
- A translation can use quota only if both buckets have enough credits for the request.
- Once either bucket runs out, the system immediately switches to your credit balance until enough quota refills.
- Quotas never expire—they continuously refill as long as your account is active.
NOTE
Due to current technical limitations, quota consumption is immediate and cannot be reversed. If a translation fails, the quota used is still consumed (unlike credits, which are returned to your balance on failure).
Quota by tier
- Starter – Enough for light daily reading on Wu Mini or Wu Flash.
- Pro – ~20× higher quotas than Starter for heavy readers. Most Pro users will stay within quota and rarely need to use credits.
- (Coming soon) Max – Highest quotas for power users and professional workloads.
Some premium models (like Wu Ultra Experimental) are credit-only and cannot draw from quota even if you have plenty available.
Credit Balance
Pro users receive a monthly grant of 10,000 credits on the 1st of each month. Credits can also be allocated manually by support during previews.
- Monthly credit grants expire at the end of each month and do not roll over.
- Purchased credits are available anytime from Settings → Usage and expire exactly 6 months after purchase.
- Check your Usage Dashboard for specific expiry dates for each credit grant.
- You can continue translating as long as you have quota or credits—no manual toggles required.
Model Costs
| Model | Cost per 1,000 characters | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Wu Mini | 2 credits | Lightweight, everyday translations |
| Wu Flash | 5 credits | Fast and high-quality |
| Wu Core Experimental | 5 credits | Consistent, uncensored output |
| Wu Max Experimental | 15 credits | Premium agentic translation (limited preview for Pro) |
| Wu Ultra Experimental | 60 credits | Highest quality, credit-only |
Example: Translating ~3,000 characters (average chapter) costs 6 credits on Wu Mini, 15 on Wu Flash, 45 on Wu Max, and 180 on Wu Ultra.
When you use your credit balance, these exact costs apply. The same proportional costs also determine how quickly your quota is consumed—translating with Wu Flash depletes your quota 2.5× faster than Wu Mini, while Wu Max uses it 7.5× faster.
How Billing Works
- Check model eligibility – Some models (e.g., Wu Ultra) skip quota entirely.
- Verify quota – If eligible, the system ensures both daily and weekly buckets have enough credits.
- Consume quota – When both buckets cover the cost, quota is used.
- Fallback to credits – If a bucket is short or the model is credit-only, the required credits are temporarily held, the translation runs, then the hold is captured or released.
Checking Usage
We've added usage visibility in two places:
Compact view (Settings modal → Translation tab):
- Quick glance at daily and weekly quota percentages
- Available credit balance
- Link to full dashboard
Full dashboard (Account page → Usage tab):
- Detailed quota percentages with refill status
- Available, held, and total credit balance
- Expiry dates for each credit grant
- Usage history
When You Run Out
Quota exhausted
No action required—the system automatically uses credits and warns you that quota is refilling in the background.
Credits exhausted
If both quota and credits are empty you can:
- Wait for quota to refill (it happens continuously).
- Buy additional credits.
- Upgrade to a higher tier to unlock larger quotas and monthly credit grants.
- Contact support if you have special usage needs.
Credit Grants & Expiry
- Monthly credits are granted at 00:00 UTC on the 1st of the month, not on your billing date. If you subscribe mid-month, your first grant is prorated by the days left until the next 1st (e.g., sign up on the 16th of a 30-day month ≈ 50%). From the next 1st onward, you receive the full monthly grant.
- Monthly grants expire at the end of the month and don't roll over.
- Purchased credits expire exactly 6 months after purchase—check your Usage Dashboard for the precise date.
- You'll receive reminders before expiration so you can use premium models (like Wu Ultra) while credits are available.
WARNING
Purchased credits permanently expire 6 months after the purchase date and are not refundable once expired.
Choosing a Tier
- Starter: Casual readers who translate a few chapters per day.
- Pro: Heavy readers who need higher quotas, a monthly grant of 10,000 credits, and limited preview access to Wu Max.
- Max (coming soon): Professionals and power users who want the largest quotas and a monthly grant of 30,000 credits. When Max tier launches, Wu Max models will require Max tier subscription to use with quota.
FAQ
How are monthly credits granted?
Monthly credits are granted on the 1st of each month at 00:00 UTC, regardless of your billing cycle date. Your billing cycle depends on when you subscribe (e.g., if you subscribe on the 15th, you'll be billed on the 15th each month), but credits are always granted on the 1st.
If you subscribe mid-month, you'll receive prorated credits calculated based on the remaining days until the next 1st. For example, if you subscribe on the 16th of a 30-day month, you'll receive approximately 50% of your monthly credit allocation. Starting the next 1st of the month, you'll receive the full monthly credit grant.
Why is my monthly grant amount lower than it should be?
Your billing cycle starts on the day you subscribe, but credits are always granted on the 1st of each month at 00:00 UTC. If you subscribe mid-month, your first credit allocation will be prorated based on the remaining days until the next 1st of the month. After that, you'll receive the full monthly credit amount (10,000 credits for Pro and 30,000 for Max) on the 1st of every month, regardless of your billing date.
Can I buy extra credits?
Yes. Use Settings → Usage → Buy Credits (or contact support) to top up instantly. Purchased credits expire 6 months after purchase, so plan to use them before that date.
Do unused quota or credits roll over?
Quotas continuously refill and never expire—they're always available as long as your account is active. Monthly credit grants expire at month-end, so plan to use them before the reset. Purchased credits (when available) will have longer expiry periods.
Why do I see credits listed as "held"?
Credits are temporarily reserved while a translation runs. They're captured when the job succeeds or released if it fails.
Where do I see history and upcoming expirations?
Open the Usage Dashboard for quota trends, credit transactions, and expiry dates. You can access it from Settings → Translation.
