Unified Credit System
Published November 10, 2025
We've moved OmniTranslate to a unified credit system that replaces the old per-model quotas. Here's how it works and what it means for you.
The Old System
Previously, each translation model had its own hourly and daily quota. Wu Mini had different limits than Wu Flash, which had different limits than Wu Core. While these limits existed in the background, we didn't display them publicly—which meant you couldn't actually see or track them. The system worked, but switching models when quotas ran out was opaque and frustrating.
The New System
Now, every translation draws from the same unified pool measured in credits. Your account has two resources:
1. Translation Quotas (Daily + Weekly)
These are included with your tier and refill continuously throughout the day and week—no waiting for midnight resets. Pro tier includes ~20x higher quotas than Starter tier.
A translation can only use quota if both the daily and weekly buckets have enough. If either runs out, the system automatically falls back to your credit balance.
Quotas refill continuously as long as your account is active. You can check your remaining quota percentage anytime in Settings or the Usage Dashboard.
NOTE
Due to current technical limitations, quota consumption is immediate and cannot be reversed. If a translation fails, the quota used is still consumed (unlike credits, which are returned to your balance on failure).
2. Credit Balance
This is for overflow usage and premium models. Pro-tier users receive a monthly grant of 10,000 credits on the 1st of each month. These grants expire at the end of the month and don't roll over.
Additionally, all existing users have received 1,000 bonus credits to try out the new system and test premium models like Wu Ultra.
In the future, you'll be able to purchase credits directly (self-serve top-up), and those purchased credits will have longer expiry periods (typically 3–6 months).
Model Costs
All models now have transparent, per-character pricing:
| Model | Cost per 1,000 characters |
|---|---|
| Wu Mini | 2 credits |
| Wu Flash | 5 credits |
| Wu Core Experimental | 5 credits |
| Wu Max Experimental | 15 credits (limited preview for Pro) |
| Wu Ultra Experimental | 60 credits (credit-only) |
Example: An average web novel chapter (~3,000 characters) costs:
- Wu Mini: 6 credits
- Wu Flash: 15 credits
- Wu Max: 45 credits
- Wu Ultra: 180 credits
When you use your credit balance, these exact costs apply. The same proportional costs also determine how quickly your quota is consumed—translating with Wu Flash depletes your quota 2.5× faster than Wu Mini, while Wu Max uses it 7.5× faster.
What This Means For You
If you're a typical user, probably nothing.
Pro-tier quotas alone cover roughly 300–400 Wu Flash chapters per day (assuming ~3,000 characters per chapter). That's before accounting for gradual regeneration throughout the day, which effectively increases your throughput. This is roughly equivalent to the hidden quota limits that existed before this change.
We expect ~90% of users will stay comfortably within quota and rarely (if ever) touch their credit balance.
Credits mainly come into play for:
- Overflow usage – Heavy translation days when you exceed quota
- Premium models – Wu Ultra is credit-only and can't use quota
- Future premium features – Models or features that require credits
How Billing Works
When you request a translation:
- Quota first – The system checks if the model allows quota usage and if both your daily and weekly buckets have enough credits. If quota is used, it's consumed immediately and cannot be reversed.
- Credits as fallback – If either quota is exhausted or the model is credit-only (like Wu Ultra), credits are temporarily held from your balance
- Capture or release – When the translation completes, held credits are either captured (success) or returned to your balance (failure)
Usage Dashboard
We've added usage visibility in two places:
Compact view (Settings modal → Translation tab):
- Quick glance at daily and weekly quota percentages
- Available credit balance
- Link to full dashboard
Full dashboard (Account page → Usage tab):
- Detailed quota percentages with refill status
- Available, held, and total credit balance
- Expiry dates for each credit grant
- Usage history
The system is designed to be silent until it matters. Most of the time, you just translate and everything works.
Looking Ahead
When the Max tier launches (coming soon), we'll introduce higher quotas and a larger monthly credit grant (30,000 credits). At that point, Wu Max models will require a Max tier subscription to use with quota. Pro users will still have access to Wu Max but will need to use credits for it.
For now, Pro users can enjoy Wu Max with their existing quotas while it's in limited preview.
